KARLSTAD

IUP students wishing to experience Swedish culture firsthand are invited to participate in a study-abroad program offered in Karlstad, Sweden. Karlstad, a city and inland port in southern Sweden, is partly on Tingvalla Island and on the northern shore of Lake Vänern, capital of Värmland County. Karlstad is near the estuary of the Klar River. Machines, matches, lumber, iron goods, and textiles are the chief industrial products. During the Middle Ages, Karlstad was known as Tingvalla. The city was chartered, and the present name was adopted in 1584.
