Providence University is a Catholic co-educational institution founded in 1956 by an American congregation: the Sisters of Providence of Saint Maryof-the-Woods, Indiana, USA. The university's roots can be traced back to 1920 in Mainland China. It is now sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Taichung.
Because of its location in Taichung City, students enjoy clean air and expansive green vistas in and around the school. Taichung offers everything students could possibly need – from department stores to the latest in health and medical services.
Providence University has about 200 reputable academic partners all over the world and about 600 international students enrolled. Providence University is one of the prominent educational institutions in Taiwan, with 22 departments, 21 graduate programs, 2 Ph.D. programs, 5 EMBA programs, and one Chinese Language Education Center. Volunteer Service is the core value of the campus through which teachers and students create a focus on teaching, respect for life, attention to moral character, and willingness to serve. Approximately 12,000 undergraduate students and 1,200 graduate students are enrolled, taught by 400 full-time faculty members.
Providence University is located in Taichung, the heart of Taiwan and the historic capital of the island. Taichung is approximately a two-hour drive from Taipei and is serviced by multiple daily buses and trains to and from all parts of Taiwan.
Taichung has convenient access to all student necessities and offers a wide variety of recreational activities. Students are only minutes away from spectacular natural landscapes with the opportunity for hiking and biking in addition to other outdoor activities. Sports and outdoor recreation and a diversity of cultural activities are available. The city also hosts lively festivals year-round.
IUP students can take courses in Chinese language and culture. In addition to this, Providence offers courses in English in Management, English Language and Literature, International Business, and the Center for General Education. Providence University offers on campus housing in a traditional residence hall. Student can choose a room type based on the number of roommates they prefer. All facilities are equipped with a bed, closet, desk, and chair. Telephone, internet, air conditioning, and heat are also provided. Public facilities include: study room, gym, TV room, water fountains, bathrooms, and laundry facilities.

If students are taking courses in English, there is no language requirement. For students who are enrolled in the Chinese language courses there will be a placement test to determine the appropriate level of courses to take.
