KANSAI GAIDAI UNIVERSITY
IUP students interested in Japanese language and culture have the opportunity to study abroad at Kansai Gaidai University. The university was established in 1945 and is located in Hirakata City, Osaka, the cultural heart of Japan. This, coupled with modern facilities, makes language and culture studies more effective. The institution is composed of Kansai Gaidai University, (four-year program), Kansai Gaidai College (two-year program), the Graduate School, and the Asian Studies Program.The school hosts thirteen thousand students in its two-year and four-year programs. Osaka is the capital of Osaka prefecture and one of the largest cities in Japan. Osaka ranks among the busiest
ports in the nation; it is also a major industrial city and a financial and commercial center.
The combination of an introductory Japanese language course with lectures in history will lay a foundation for understanding about Japan and its people. Field trips and student-organized activities will add an interesting hands-on experience to your learning.

Previous Japanese language training is not an absolute requirement for admission to the Asian Studies Program at Kansai Gaidai. However, students are encouraged to have some background knowledge in Japanese, since such students usually benefit the most from the educational and personal experiences available at Kansai Gaidai.
